Work in progress . Working process . Working out the order of which colours go first , which areas need masking off , which colours overlap , which edges are sharp , which blurred etc. The old street lamp globe is sanded and wired up so it can light up and rotate on a stand built of stuff left on the streets of the city at night . I've worked out the drawing so the panorama fits around the circumference . Here's a story about the next piece I'm working on. Illustrated by the 4 photos ( any order you like ). .. "Rotten as a carrot" said the man deadheading the old Thorn security lights on a site down Battersea quay . Never heard that before . He said it a few times. After replacing the big workings with a single modern bulb , sanding the lichen off and oak-staining it , the back glows like some carrot- coloured fur-ber-glass tortoiseshell . While piecing that together, I've also pieced together a sketch so I can paint on the lens my memory's view of what the light was shining on all those years . In this way it can light it up still .... .......Carrots ... don't they store enough energy to come back again ?..............

After lighting the misty Thames embankment opposite the Houses of Parliament for well over a hundred years , I used this establishment lamppost to siphon off some light which will keep this rescued NHS ceiling light alive .
